ALOM Signature Events
Part of ALOM’s mission to foster local government includes providing opportunities for municipal elected, appointed and staff representatives to receive comprehensive educational and networking experiences. These opportunities bring peer groups together for the chance to learn from experts in their respective fields, and from one another. ALOM’s signature events described below are each designed with this goal in mind.
Spring Educational Conference
ALOM’s Marquee event is the Annual Spring Educational Conference held every April. This event is a core part of our mission to provide education and networking opportunities to staff, appointed and elected officials with a stake in municipal government. Each Spring Educational Conference hosts 20+ educational sessions facilitated by knowledgeable experts. Over the last 5 years, the event has grown over 30% and has been attended by over 400 local government registrants, 75+ exhibitors and nearly 1,000 total people!
Registration begins for this event the first week of January every year, with multiple pricing options and packages available. Interested speakers should make note that ALOM publishes a Request for Proposals in the fall each year, with a deadline of the first week of November.
Annual Golf Outing
Held at the exclusive Allegheny Country Club every June or July, this event serves as a fun networking opportunity. Attended by many vendors, legislators and municipal representatives, close to 150 golfers often participate. The event closes with a reception and prize drawings!
Benefits Seminar
Each year in early fall, ALOM partners with Rhoades Law, Municipal Benefits Services and other experts in the field of municipal pension and employee benefits to provide a learning opportunity for over 100 municipal staff and elected officials. Topics often include investment trends, health benefits administration, and portfolio management. This seminar often qualifies for CLE credits for attorneys and constituents are encouraged to attend with their municipal plan advisors.
Sporting Clays
This event serves as another informal networking opportunity, serving as a way to engage stakeholders in a different way. Senate Engineering serves as the Presenting Sponsor of this event taking place every September, with additional support from MRM. Clay shoots are structured much like golf outings, with groups of 4 rotating among stations. This event began in 2018 and has since grown to include nearly 100 shooters.
Public Works Seminar
This recent addition to the ALOM Signature events is Presented by Gateway Engineers. Designed to provide the annual education required by the State of Pennsylvania to Public Works staff, this day-long seminar provides information on topics such as MS4 compliance and Operations & Maintenance systems. Certificates are provided to each attendee at the conclusion of the seminar so that they can verify their education with the State.
Women in Leadership
This initiative began in 2018 as a way to bring women leaders serving municipal government together as a network. Events are held at least once a year in the spring or fall.
