Local Government Excellence Award Winners

Each year, the Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence recognizes local governments and officials that have found creative ways to improve their communities. The awards ceremony is held in April during Local Government Week. Honors are presented in eight categories:

Building Community Partnerships ~ Borough of Dormont

–Stormwater 101: Ad hoc Committee of borough residents, Educational outreach to community, Increased support for borough’s stormwater management plan

–Community partnerships to communicate, demonstrate, and address stormwater management issues

Promoting Community/Economic Revitalization ~ Borough of Heidelberg

–10 year project to plan, develop and rebuild 1.5 mile streetscape project in core business districts

–Partnered with neighboring communities to advance common goals

–Leveraged multitude of resources

Innovative Community/Governmental Initiatives ~ Township of Collier

–Solar roof on public works facility for fiscal savings, additional revenues and energy efficiency

–Partnered with Local Government Academy to offer training to other municipal officials on how project can be applied throughout PA

Information Technology ~ Tarentum Borough

–Series of investments in tech upgrades to achieve significant reductions in energy consumption and maintenance costs while increasing capabilities of utility management and information systems
