Thank you to all of the municipalities that participated in the 2019 Banner Community Program. This year, the program was expanded to include municipal authorities and resulted in a record 69 communities earning Banner Community designation. The 2019 Banner Communities were announced on March 8, 2019. Click here to view the 2019 Banner Communities. Click here to view the Recognition Event Photo Album. These municipalities earned the designation of a Banner Community by distinguishing themselves as model communities through a commitment to sustainable practices including professional development, intergovernmental cooperation, sound fiscal management and proactive communications to engage community stakeholders.
In March, a special recognition luncheon was hosted by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald to recognize program participants. In addition, through a partnership with HRG Engineering, Banner Community designees were eligible for scholarships for future professional development opportunities such as the ALOM Spring Educational Conference as a recognition of efforts to promote best practices at the local government level. Scholarships were randomly drawn at this year’s conference and were awarded to Baldwin Borough, Cranberry Township, Millvale Borough, Municipality of Monroeville, Ohio Township, Port Vue Borough, South Fayette Township, Swissvale Borough, West View Borough and Wilkins Township.
The 2020 Banner Community Application for municipalities and authorities are now available. The application reflects efforts undertaken by a municipal government during the 2019 calendar year. Applications may be submitted to email@example.com at any time from now until the deadline of January 24, 2020.
